Tackling Techniques: Sampler Afghans

Have you seen Berroco’s newest free pattern offering?  It is just amazing:

I just came across this and of course love it because Norah Gaughan designed it.  I’m kind of a Norah junkie.  See (those are just a few):

I love patterns like this where you can try new things and you aren’t committed to a ginormous project so if maybe the new stitch or technique isn’t your favorite to do, it’s over quickly.  Maybe you are scared of trying something.  Hey, it’s just a square.  (like when you are afraid to go in the basement at night…run really fast)

Sometimes people like to do Knit Alongs for big projects like an afghan.  You can get together and work on the same squares because what motivates you more to finish than seeing people who are sticking to it and getting it done?  Some friends in my yarn shop got together to do the Great American Afghan.

They would pick which type of technique interested them and go for it.  It was fun to see how everyone interpreted each square.  Also you could really see who checked gauge and maybe who just was excited to get started.  The main thing was we had a blast.  That’s why we do these things.

Don’t be afraid…run really fast…er, get those needles and dive in.  Plus Norah is giving you the pattern for FREE!!!  (The yarn that is recommended, Vintage, is also a favorite…way to go Berroco!)
